The Art Of Attar

Origins

Over 400 years before the first fragrances were created in the west, Arabia was known as ‘the land of perfume’.  8th and 9th century polymaths Al-Razi, Al-Kindi and Ibn Sina were the first people to have use the technique of distillation, forming the foundation of our modern-day perfume industry.

They perfected methods of extracting rose oil and other plant oils to create the purest of perfumes known as Attars.

The word 'attar', 'ittar' or 'itra' is derived from the Persian word itir, meaning 'perfume'.
